Is Delta 8 THC legal in Wisconsin?
Yes. Delta-8 or delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive cannabinoid that is a naturally occurring chemical compound, found in small traces of the cannabis plant. Delta 8 in Wisconsin is legal to use, purchase, and sell under the 2018 Farm Bill. Delta 8 has a chemical structure similar to that of its well-known counterpart, Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9-THC), the main psychoactive compound found in marijuana. That’s what gets you.
Effects
Delta-8 is known to have similar effects to Delta-9 THC, which is why it is lucrative in states like Wisconsin where Delta 9 is illegal. It offers an unforgettable experience but the reviews vary. Some say it is stronger than delta-9, some say it is slightly less intense, which is why it is highly recommended to users who want to enjoy cannabis and its effects but don’t want to experience the potential that comes with it.
Research. Or lack thereof
Research and studies of Delta-8 are few and far between. However, in 1973, delta-8-THC and delta-9-THC were administered to six research participants. Despite the small sample size, researchers concluded that delta-8-THC was about two-thirds as potent as delta-9-THC and was qualitatively similar in experiential effects (Hollister and Gillespie 1973; Razdan 1984). In 1995, researchers gave delta-8-THC to eight pediatric cancer patients two hours before each chemotherapy session. Over the course of 8 months, none of these patients vomited following their cancer treatment. The researchers concluded that delta-8-THC was a more stable compound than the more well-studied delta-9-THC (Abrahamov et al. 1995, consistent with other findings (Zias et al. 1993), and suggested that delta-8-THC could be a better candidate than delta-9-THC for new therapeutics.
Legal Status around the country
In recent months, 14 U.S. States have blocked the sale of delta-8-THC allegedly due to the “lack of research” into the compound’s effects on the body. States like Alaska, Colorado, Montana, New York, Nevada, Vermont, and Washington that have legal recreational marijuana use have banned it. Delta 8 is lucrative because under the farm bill it is considered federally legal and has no state or federal specific Recreational Tax unlike standard marijuana, where some states have recreational taxes as high as 37%. It seems the “more research is needed” excuse rings its way through our freedoms yet again.
Conclusion
Try it, or don’t.
